The local part is the whole point. The editor, the transcription, and the background removal all run on your own machine, so there is no bucket sitting somewhere with your rushes in it. The AI features you turn on are the one exception, and the honest note below spells out exactly what they send.

The honest exception: connect an AI and it does read frames and audio, because that is how it checks its own work. Anything you ask it to generate goes to the provider whose key you brought, and image-to-video and the voice tools upload the specific frame or clip audio you point them at. None of that comes to us.

Your originals are never modified

Cutroom edits from proxies and writes a new file at the end. The file you dragged in is the file you still have.

Transcription runs on your machine

whisper.cpp, offline, word-level timing. Your voice is not sent anywhere to be turned into text.

Background removal runs on your machine

Local ONNX matting. No green screen, and no round trip to somebody's cloud.

Your API keys are encrypted at rest

Stored encrypted on your machine. The AI can use a key. It can never read one back out.

Every other local AI editor asks you to give something up.

Run an AI editor on your own machine today and something has to give. The two built for creators only edit locally on a Mac. The free Windows one is built for generating clips, and wants a 16GB NVIDIA card to do it. The one that fits a pro workflow is not an editor at all: it drives Premiere or Resolve, which you buy separately. Cutroom asks for none of that.

Graphics card
Any. Transcription runs on your processor on any Windows PC. An NVIDIA card makes it faster, and that is all it does. You do not need one.

Only for connecting an AI. The one-paste connection runs on Node, so install it before you connect your AI. Cutroom checks and tells you if it is missing. Every other part of the app works without it.

Yes. A multilingual speech model ships inside the app and transcribes Arabic and more than 90 languages on your own machine, auto-detecting the spoken language or the one you pick. Arabic and Hebrew captions render right-to-left with a bundled Arabic font, in the editor and in the exported video. Cutroom fits the model to your machine's memory, so it works on modest PCs too, and it all runs offline.

Updates happen inside the app, so there is nothing to download and reinstall by hand. You decide how: toggle whether Cutroom checks for updates and downloads them on its own, and it installs only when you say so. Your projects and saved library stay exactly where they are, and every update in this version is part of the one-time price.
